Literature is an art form which since ages has been used as a means to communicate with the world. Every country has seen various poets and novelist who through their words have showcased their emotions of their country mates.

Through the ages, literature as seen vast changes, not only in the writer, but also the themes, the language, the form and many more.

What is Literature?

A collection of written works is referred to as literature. For long this word has been used to describe the visinary collections of poetry and prose that are characterised by the writers’ aims as well as the perceived aesthetic perfection of their execution. Some of the wider systems that are used to categorise literature include: Language, national origin, historical time, genre, and topic matter.

The Scope of Literature

In simple words, Literature is a means of expressing oneself. However, not everything communicated in words is considered literature, even if it is arranged and written down.

Most critics believe that texts that are essentially informative — technical, intellectual, or journalistic, so not fall under the category of literature. Certain types of writing, on the other hand, are unanimously considered to be part of literature as an art form.

Artistic merit is more difficult to define than to acknowledge. It is not necessary for the writer to pursue it in order to obtain it.

The lyric poem is the purest (or, at the very least, the most intense) literary genre.
Poetry that fails as literature is referred to as verse rather than poetry.
All of the world’s major novels are considered literature, yet there are hundreds more that are not.
The majority of great dramas are considered works of literature.
The essay was once prepared with the intention of being read as a piece of literature.
History was considered one of the seven arts by the Greeks, and it was inspired by a goddess, the muse Clio.
Some personal papers (autobiographies, diaries, memoirs, and letters) are considered to be among the finest works of literature in the world.
Many philosophical writings are classified as literature.
Oratory, or the art of persuasion, has long been regarded as a literary masterpiece.

The Greatest Literature the world has seen

Anna Karenina

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy is widely regarded as the finest novel ever written. It depicts everyday life in Russia and mankind in general. Tolstoy employs his acute imaginative perception to construct some of literature’s most famous characters. Anna is a cultured woman who, in order to satisfy her passionate nature, abandons her hollow existence as Karenin’s wife and turns to Count Vronsky — with tragic results.

To Kill a Mockingbird

“To Kill A Mockingbird” is a compassionate, dramatic, and emotionally moving novel that leads readers to the origins of human conduct — to innocence and experience, generosity and cruelty, love and hatred, humour and sadness.

The Great Gatsby

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s third book, The Great Gatsby, is often regarded as his greatest achievement. This classic Jazz Age novel has been praised by generations of readers. It’s a wonderfully constructed narrative of America in the 1920s about the fantastically affluent Jay Gatsby and his new love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of opulent parties on Long Island at a time when “gin was the national drink and sex was the national obsession,” according to The New York Times.

One Hundred Years of Solitude

The brilliant, bestselling, and seminal novel that portrays the irreconcilable clash between the yearning for solitude and the need for love — in lush, creative prose that has come to define an entire genre known as “magical realism.”

Jane Eyre

Jane, who was orphaned as a youngster, has spent her entire life as an outcast. When she arrives to Thornfield Hall, where she has been employed by the moody, proud Edward Rochester to care for his ward Adèle, her courage is tested once more. Jane is drawn to his disturbed but compassionate spirit. She has a crush on him. Hard.

The Color Purple

The Color Purple by Alice Walker is a significant cultural touchstone of modern American literature, depicting the life of African American women in rural Georgia in the early twentieth century. Sisters Celie and Nettie have been separated since they were young girls, yet they have maintained their love and hope for each other despite the passage of time, distance, and silence. The novel takes readers into its vivid and evocative descriptions of Celie, Nettie, Shug Avery, and Sofia and their experience through a series of letters spanning twenty years, first from Celie to God, then from the sisters to one other despite the uncertainty.

Don Quixote

Reading chivalric stories has captivated Don Quixote to the point where he decides to become a knight-errant himself. His adventures develop in all sorts of marvellous ways in the companionship of his trusty squire, Sancho Panza. Sancho develops wisdom and a certain sagacity, whereas Quixote’s fantasy often leads him astray — he tilts at windmills, supposing them to be giants. They are a sane maniac and a clever fool who traverse the world together and have tormented readers’ imaginations for nearly 400 years.

Conclusion

More and more masterpieces are being added to the literature every year. SO make sure to pick your book and enjoy the world of words.
